The English, meanwhile, had already invented something called animal biscuits.
Sensing a marketing moment, several companies started manufacturing animal biscuits with circus packaging and called them Barnum's.
Soon the product migrated across the ocean, where Nabisco's forerunner, the National Biscuit Co.
